Students are invited to submit a research proposal for the new 2016 IADR Prosthodontics Group Student Research Fellowship. This Fellowship is administered by the IADR Prosthodontics Group (PG) and co-sponsored by VITA Zahnfabrik and PG.
The fellowship has been created to encourage dental students, residents, and graduate students to consider careers in oral health research related to the topic of Prosthodontics. Proposals are sought in any category of research related to Prosthodontics.
The fellowship consists of a cash prize of $3,000.00 + travel funds up to $1,500.00, with the funds being used to support direct costs for the research and travel/accommodations to present at an annual IADR General Session & Exhibition. It is expected that the results of the research will be presented at an annual IADR meeting within two years of receiving the fellowship, by submitting an abstract within the Prosthodontics Group for a poster or oral presentation.
In order to assist the award recipient, travel funds up to a limit of $1,500.00 (depending on meeting and recipient location) will be provided upon acceptance of the abstract of the research for presentation at the IADR General Session & Exhibition. The PG Fellowship Committee will base the amount of the travel award on the home city of the award recipient and the meeting location. Publications should declare the support of funding by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Prosthodontics Group Student Research Fellowship and VITA Zahnfabrik.
The winner, or winners, of the Student Research Fellowship will be announced at the PG Business Meeting during the 94th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR in Seoul, Republic of Korea, June 22-25, 2016. The cash award will be issued no later than July, 2016.
Eligibility:
Students, residents, or graduate students carrying out original research in which they are the primary investigator are eligible for the Student Research Fellowship. To be eligible, applicants cannot have been the primary author of more than three articles published in refereed scientific journals. Students must be sponsored by a faculty member who is a member of the PG of the IADR. Only one application may be submitted by an individual in any year. Any student who has won this fellowship previously is not eligible to apply again.
Review:
The fellowship is administered and managed by the PG. The PG Fellowship Committee will coordinate review of the proposals. Each proposal will be evaluated on its scientific merits, significance and feasibility.

Proposal:
PROPOSALS LONGER THAN 8 PAGES AND/OR 2800 WORDS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED (Proposals must include sections A-H at below)
A. Specific Aims List the objectives, describe what the research is intended to accomplish and the hypotheses that will be tested.
B. Background and Significance.
C. Preliminary Data (if any).
D. Materials and Methods, including statistical methods of data.
E. Literature Cited.
F. Resource Information. Facilities and equipment to be used for research project.
G. Other support for applicant and faculty sponsor.
H. Recombinant DNA, Recombinant DNA Molecules If appropriate, indication that your project adheres to the current NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules.
Required Documents:
Each application must be accompanied by a cover letter from the applicant’s faculty sponsor, indicating the support of the proposed research by the institution and the faculty sponsor. The sponsor’s letter must indicate that the proposal is primarily the work of the student. Multiple applications arising from the same laboratory should clearly delineate the independent focus of each project, and any activity that is potentially shared among projects. Faculty advisors are limited to sponsor research proposals from a maximum of two students. Each sponsor should indicate their IADR membership number and that they are a member of the Prosthodontic Group.
Each proposal should also include a curriculum vitae (of up to but not exceeding two pages), outlining the student’s career up to the time of the application. A copy of the sponsor’s biographical sketch (not to exceed two pages) must also be included.
Human Subjects: (IF APPLICABLE) Documentation that your project has been approved by your local Institutional Review Board.
Vertebrate Animals: (IF APPLICABLE) Documentation that your project has been approved by your local Institutional Review Board.
