IADR Joseph Lister Award for New Investigators

The IADR Joseph Lister Award for New Investigators is managed by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and supported by Johnson & Johnson Consumer & Personal Products Worldwide Division of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. The Awards Competition was created to award young investigators with original research in oral disease prevention or oral health promotion.

Eligibility:

The award is for new investigators within ten years of their first academic appointment. Research must have been initiated and conducted during this time, and must not have been conducted as part of a post-graduate degree program.

Candidates must provide a verification letter of an academic appointment with dedicated research time.

Candidates must be a current full member of the IADR at the time of submission and entry into the competition.

Candidates must have an abstract accepted for the IADR General Session & Exhibition and meet all of the requirements for an accepted abstract, i.e. not presented or published elsewhere.

Application Procedures:

An abstract must be submitted to the Global Headquarters for the IADR General Session & Exhibition by the meeting abstract deadline, adhering to the usual submission procedures. If the applicant meets all of the eligibility requirements, they can self-select by ticking a box to enter the IADR Joseph Lister Award for New Investigators.

The Competition and Award Criteria:

All eligible abstracts will be reviewed by a specially appointed committee.

Applicants may not apply simultaneously for the AADR Hatton Awards Competition or other travel grants supporting travel to this General Session.

Abstracts will be reviewed for research originality and potential for public health impact.

Eight (8) finalists will be selected and notified in writing before the meeting. Finalists will be accepted to present in poster format only. 

During the IADR General Session & Exhibition, the eight (8) finalists will present their posters to the judging committee during a closed-door session.

Award Criteria at the finalist stage will be research originality, clarity of presentation and response to judges’ questions, potential for public health impact, and a clear plan for next steps with the research.

First and second prize winners will be selected and awarded with a monetary prize and a plaque to be mailed after the meeting.

Award winners will be announced at the IADR General Session & Exhibition.

The awards will consist of the following:

$2,000 first place winner

$1,000 second place winner

$500 to each of the eight finalists
